USD Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin pegged to the value of the US dollar. It was created in 2014 and was originally released at the Omni on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, but now the USDT token is available on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC20 token and the TRON blockchain as a TRC20 token. This means that you will need ETH or TRX to send them, respectively.
According to the Tether documents, each USDT, regardless of the blockchain, is always fully backed by the company's reserves, which include the usual fiat money like ordinary US dollars, electronic money, cash equivalents, and may also include assets and other assets, including those that Tether provides for use by third parties.
USDT was created primarily for blockchain companies, but found a true audience in enthusiasts and traders, and of course the audience of exchanges and trading platforms. USDT is traded on most cryptocurrency exchanges and allows traders to easily determine prices on trading platforms around the world.
Thanks to their large market capitalization (over 8 billion US dollars), tokens have been distributed in smart contracts of six blockchains. As of August 2021, USDT operates in: Ethereum, Omni, Tron, EOS, Liquid, and Algorand.
